Not A Wonderful Time Of The Year: Severe Seasonal Allergies

There are many types of allergies that an individual can be affected with. Some of those allergies can be ongoing and can include being allergic to such things as pet dander, dust, various foods, etc.

In addition to ongoing allergies, an individual may suffer from seasonal allergies. These seasonal allergies can affect the individual very severely. Some of those severe seasonal allergies could include being allergic to pollen. Generally, pollen occurs during various times of the year. Often these severe seasonal allergies are related to the spring and fall when various plants pollinate.

Therefore, if wishing to know more about severe seasonal allergies, it is important to know a number of various issues related to this condition. Specifically, what causes severe seasonal allergies, the symptoms that are exhibited and what are the possible treatments for this condition.

What Causes Severe Seasonal Allergies?

Severe seasonal allergies are caused by pollens found in the air. These airborne pollens are produced from a variety of seasonal plants.

In addition, severe seasonal allergies can be caused by spores. These spores can be generated from mold.

The specific reaction of spores and pollens is due to the reaction of the body's immune system when the individual comes into contact with these substances. In some people the body's immune system does not respond to pollen or spores. However, for some people, their immune system reacts to these substances in a highly sensitive way. Subsequently, the immune system fights against the "invaders" which generally is through the release of histamine.

Symptoms

Once the immune system responds to pollen and the histamine is released, there are a number of symptoms associated with this process. Those symptoms can include a runny nose, sneezing, dry cough, congestion, sneezing, etc.

Treatment

There are a number of treatments available for the individual who suffers from severe seasonal allergies. Some of those treatment methods include the use of natural treatments.

One such treatment method is to rinse or wash those areas of entry for the pollen. Those areas include the eyes, nose and mouth. To apply this treatment method the individual simply rinses their eyes, gargles or uses a ball syringe to run water through the nostrils.

Another treatment method that can be used to address severe seasonal allergies is through the use of allergy shots. These seasonal allergy shots can be taken prior to the season of the year that adversely affects the individual.

The concept behind the allergy shots given to those that suffer from severe seasonal allergies is, once the allergen is identified, shots containing this allergen are administered to the individual in progressive strengths. Ultimately, the individual begins to build up an immunity to the pollen or spore.
